Baseball Victoria Holds 2019 Annual General Meeting

Baseball Victoria welcomed members to the 2019 Annual General Meeting, which was held at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on Tuesday 12th February starting at 7:00pm.

There were 30 Baseball Victoria Member Bodes in attendance, including Victorian Summer Baseball League Clubs, Winter Associations, Victorian Baseball Association Life Members Robert Blackmore (2005), Peter Dihm (2006) and Baseball Victoria Life Members, Jason Blair (2009), John King (2015) and Julie Jones (2016). Five members of the Baseball Victoria Board of Directors, Myles Foreman (President), James van Beek (Vice President), Craig Armstead, Joanna O’Connor and Sheila Nguyen joined Baseball Victoria CEO Justin Huber and Baseball Victoria Office Staff for this important opportunity to meet with members to discuss the past year and what’s in store for the future.

During the Annual General Meeting, the Members in accordance with the Constitution of Baseball Victoria:

Adopted the minutes of the Annual General Meeting held 19 February 2018

Adopted the Financial Statements for the financial year ended 30 September 2018. This followed a presentation by Baseball Victoria Finance Director James van Beek on the key movements in the Financial Statements, which can be found in the 2017/18 Baseball Victoria Annual Report.

Adopted the 2017/18 Baseball Victoria Annual Report. This followed a presentation by Baseball Victoria President Myles Foreman and Baseball Victoria CEO Justin Huber. A copy of the Annual Report can be found on the Baseball Victoria Website: http://baseballvictoria.com.au/http//baseballvictoria.com.au/about/corporatedocuments/annualreports Ratified the reappointment of Craig Armstead as a Director of Baseball Victoria for a second term of three years. Appointed in May 2015, Craig has assumed responsibility for the Member Services & Data portfolio, bringing with him a wealth of diverse experience within Sporting and Consumer Goods, as well as Finance, Marketing and General Management. Craig has held a variety of roles in the sporting environment, including Consumer Business Manager with the Geelong Cats (AFL), General Manager – Marketing & Sales with the South Dandenong Dragons Basketball Club, General Manager – Clubs and Membership with Greyhound Racing Victoria and is currently Chief Executive Officer of Essendon District Football League.

Ratified the appointment of Grant Weir as a Director of Baseball Victoria for a term of three years. A longtime participant in the sport, Grant’s vast experience includes playing baseball in the Under 19 USA tours, the Australian Baseball League and the 1988 Olympics. Grant has worked as a pitching coach with the Australian U17’s and Claxton Shield teams, and he also headed the Victorian and Australian Women’s programs in their early years. Grant currently teaches Sport Development at Victorian University has previously worked for the Victorian Baseball Association and held multiple positions in the sports sector for other state and national organisations.

Ratified the appointment of Margie Ardono as a Director of Baseball Victoria for a term of three years. A graduate of Victoria University and the University of Indonesia – Jakarta, Margie brings more than 20 years of experience and success in the areas of administration, events, community development and marketing. She currently serves as the Company Director of an Australian consumer products business that distributes both locally and internationally. As the mother of two sons who are proud baseball athletes, Margie has been involved in our sporting world for many years.

Having called for nominations from Member Bodies for persons to be considered for Life Membership of Baseball Victoria, five nominations were received. From these four nominations the Board recommended that two persons have life membership conferred on them having demonstrated distinguished service to baseball in Victoria that assisted the advancement of this sport in our state.

Life Membership of Baseball Victoria was conferred on Michele Winther for distinguished service to baseball in Victoria.

Life Membership of Baseball Victoria was conferred on Ian Bishop for distinguished service to baseball in Victoria.

The Annual General Meeting was followed by a Q&A during which the President and CEO answered questions from the Members.
