What a whirlwind the 2019 Australian Youth Championships were! We’d like to congratulate all our players, coaches and EO’s for such fantastic performances at AYC 2019.
Our U18 Blue team won the gold medal game, claiming Victoria’s first U18 championship since 2004! They broke their title drought with a thrilling 14-2 victory over New South Wales, led by MVP and hitting champion Conor Myles’ 3 RBI’s. He went 2-for-4 in the final game, with a .452 batting average in his 10 games overall. Seven of his 19 hits were extra bases, and he drove in a tournament-high 24 runs with a slugging percentage of .762.
The 2019 Golden Arm Blake Townsend threw five stellar innings, allowing only three hits and two unearned runs in his third quality start of the championship.
Relief pitcher Lachlan Hockey did a great job closing out the game and sealing the sweet victory for the U18 Blues.
The U16 Blues also made it all the way to the gold medal game, and although they lost 10-3 to NSW, they gave it their all and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts!
The U16 Whites played for a bronze medal, losing out to Western Australia in the final but securing a well-earned fourth place finish. The U18 Whites won 6-1 over ACT in the seventh place playoff.
Well done to all our players! We are so pleased with the dedication and determination of our four teams, and all of these participants have bright futures ahead of them!
